Another week of the season has now been ticked off and it was a special weekend for our club. Round 2 of the Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership was our first home game for our senior sides and marked the final game at Browne Park before construction on the new stadium begins. The Central Queensland Capras would like to thank our sponsors, members, volunteers and supporters who came out for this special afternoon of Rugby League.

Round 2 kicked off with our BMD Premiership Capras taking on the Wynnum Manly Seagulls. Our side went in at the break with some work to do in the second half, being behind 14-nil. The Seagulls came out fast in the second half with NRLW player Katrina Brown crossing in the 48th minute. Our 2RF Tylah Phillips crossed for her first try not long after and would allow our team to gain some momentum. Three more tries in the second half to Emma Paki 57′, Bree Spreadborough 66′ and Tylah Phillips crossing for her second in the 76th minute putting our team within 2 points of WM Seagulls. In an absolute nail biting finish, unfortunately our girls would come up short at the full time siren. The final score being 22-24 in favour of the Seagulls.

Running out onto Browne Park with a Round 1 win under our belts, our Hostplus Cup side would have to start fast against a very physical PNG Hunters team. Jesse Jennings got us on the scoreboard early, crossing in the 2nd minute of the game for a try. Not much would split the two teams, as we headed into the break with a slim 2 point lead over the Hunters (14-12). As we returned for the second half, our team would come out firing. Tries to Trey Brown, an impressive try in the corner to Bob Tenza, Blake Moore’s double and a try on debut for young Khaiya Waiembi would give our Hostplus Cup side a 38-18 win on full time. Our winger Bob Tenza was impressive across the park once again, scoring a flashy try in the corner, 170 run metres, 45 post contact metres, 8 tackle breaks and a line break to finish his Round 2 performance.
