Our BMD Premiership Capras opened the season against the Western Clydesdales in Toowoomba last Saturday. In a Round 1 clash that had a stack of NRLW experience across both sides, it was a great test for our girls to begin the season. Head Coach Julyess Jarvis, was impressed overall with his sides performance.

“We made it tough for ourselves at the start of the game, giving away a lot of penalties and errors, which meant we had to defend for majority of the first half. I thought the girls played with a lot of effort throughout the game. In the second half we completed a few more sets and got a bit of momentum, which we were able to play off the back off and score two tries. We had a chance to win the game on full time but unfortunately got held up over the line”

Our BMD team now refocus to this Saturday at Browne Park, as we clash with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls. “The big focus this weekend will be to keep our penalty count and errors down and complete our sets, because when we have the ball in hand we definitely can score points”

We had five players make their BMD Capras debut in Round 1; Kate Ferling, Jesse Southwell, Hannah Southwell, Lucy White and Tori Dakin. Coach Jarvis was impressed with the performance of all the girls who pulled on the Capras jersey for the first time. “I thought all five debutants played really well on the weekend. Unfortunately Lucy White has broken her hand in the game and will be out for a while now. Jesse Southwell and Kate Ferling both scored on debut. Young Tori Dakin & Hannah Southwell both played tough and got through their work in the middle well”

Bree Spreadborough was named Player of the Match for Round 1 by the team. “Bree took a lot of tough carries for the team coming out of our own end and ran for 196 metres. Her efforts were rewarded as well when she crossed for a try in the second half”
