Our Junior Capras squads took on the Townsville Blackhawks for Round 2 of statewide competitions at Home. Not even a little bit of rain could dampen a great day of footy, we had a wonderful turn out at Browne Park for our four Junior games and look forward to travelling down the road to Gladstone this weekend for Round 3.

Story via QRL.com:

The Central Queensland Capras and Townsville Blackhawks started off their seasons with an exciting derby in Rockhampton on Saturday.

And it was the home side who walked away with the chocolates, after notching up a 14-10 victory over their rivals.

The Capras came racing out of the gates early on, with centre Tahlia Shuker and five-eighth Mackayla Oakley scoring within eight minutes of each other.

They took an 8-0 lead into halftime with the Blackhawks scoring their first try of their season 10 minutes into the second stanza through backrower Lhylla Williamson.

Central Queensland’s Ella Lindsay responded five minutes later with what would be the winning try, with a late try to Townsville prop Chloe Watson not enough to get the away team the two points.

Head Coach Peter Rogers said; “Our boys still have a bit of work to do off the back of our Trials and Round 1. We had a really great preseason but now we need to put that all together on the field and put in some solid performances. I am excited to see what the rest of the season brings, we have a quality group of talented young men. They are learning what it takes to perform at this high level.
From my perspective I am really enjoying the role of head coach and looking foward to seeing what we can achieve”

Our Hostplus Cup and BMD Premiership squads made the trip up North to BB Print Stadium, Mackay to take on the Mackay Cutters in trial matches. This was the first footy of 2024 for our BMD squad and first look for Head Coach Julyess Jarvis at some players in our squad. Our Hostplus Cup squad took around 29 players for this clash with the Cutters and was a chance for our entire squad to but their best foot forward leading into Round 1.
