Round 3 of the Hostplus Cup was a road trip for our team to Mackay to take on the Cutters. This would be a fantastic match up with both teams coming into the game undefeated and looking to continue their runs at the beginning of the season. The Mackay Cutters would come away with the 2 points after Round 3 and head coach Lionel Harbin will use the upcoming weeks break to keep improving on his teams good last 3 game performances. “We had opportunities to win the game in the second half and that is an area where we need to get the job done. At the start of this week, we spoke about our efforts and energy defensively in the game, which is something that we will look to continue to build on”.

Winger Connor Rothery, impressed Coach Harbin with his performance on debut against Mackay. Rothery picked up a try, 108 run metres, 30 post contact metres and a line break on his first outing for our Hostplus Cup side; “Connor scored a great and got himself involved in the game heavily”.

Lachlan Hubner was impressive once again and was named in the Round 3 Hostplus Cup ‘team of the week’. Hubner also bagged himself a try, ran for 197 metres, 61 post contact metres and a line break; “I thought Hubby in the middle was great again, he got through a ton of work once again and Khaiya Waiembi & Zev John off the bench added some good punch up the middle of the field to get us going forward”.

The QRL competitions will enjoy a weekend off over the Easter break, with no games being played. This is a great time for our teams to freshen up after lots of footy throughout the trials and being back into the regular season. “With the weekend off, we got back into things after the game on the weekend early and we will train Monday and Wednesday before giving the boys a few days off to spend time with family before we start to prepare for Round 4 at home”

Our Hostplus Cup team will be back in action on the 7th April at home for Round 4 against Burleigh Bears. This will see the first game being played at Rugby Park, our new home ground.
