Trey Brown has been a Sea Eagle and Bear but for 99 games he’s been a Capra and on Saturday he will play his 100th game for his beloved Hostplus Cup Central Queensland Capras and his adopted community.
Starting in 2019 against Wynnum in a 34-12 loss Brown has been and gone but always come back to Rockhampton and the region and team he loves.
“I consider this my home, I know I am from Sydney, but I can’t thank this area enough for what they’ve done for me.” Brown said.
“To play 100 games, is a big deal.
“I remember I got the phone call on the Thursday to say if you want, we have a chance for you here.
“I have come to Rockhampton and made my debut against Wynnum on the Saturday.
“The Chook Pen was going off, and I thought what have I got myself into here.”
When it comes to highlights in those 99 games one comes straight to mind.
“The final against the Northern Pride in 2022 we were down 22-0 and came back to win 30-22.
“It was the first time in a long while the Capras had made finals and things weren’t looking great at 22-0 but we rallied and found a way and what a great afternoon.
“Playing with Anthony Milford was a highlight too, I watched him so much all the way back to his Canberra days and loved playing with him.
“My good mate Lachlan Hubner too, he’s just what the Capras are about. A local boy that kept working hard and is now playing NRL.”
Brown is immersed in the Capras, and community and he loves working for the Capras Community Care program.
“The region is just Rugby League mad which works out well because I love it too.
“I love getting out and seeing people and talking football in the community.
“I always joke that Rockhampton is like a crab pot, once you’re in it’s very hard to get out.
“The area has the same qualities that I think are important, work hard on and off the field and love the Capras.”
Capras coach Lionel Harbin who will coach his 111th game for the Capras this week and move to 18th most games coached in the Hostplus Cup knows the value of Brown.
“It’s the person he is he brings people together; he makes you want to improve.” Harbin said.
“He’s a pleasure to have around the club and in our community.
“100 games is a big achievement, and he’s done it here when we have had some years, we didn’t win too much but he’s still here and being the great Capra that he is.
“That’s the measure of him.”
On Saturday for the 100th time Brown will represent his family and community proudly and that same community will honour one of their favourites in his 100th game for the Capras.
