Bailey Cavanough’s rugby league story begins the way many great ones do — as a six-year-old ball boy for the A Grade, soaking it in on early Saturday mornings at the Nanango Stags while his dad and uncles played. He has come a long way from the sidelines since then. In 2025, Bailey pulled on the Capras jersey as player #792, debuting against the Mackay Cutters with his family in the stands to celebrate alongside him — a moment he counts as the standout of his career so far.
The preparation for that milestone — and every game since — has never wavered. Left sock. Right sock. Left boot. Right boot. Tie the left, tie the right. Six taps on the ground before standing up. No exceptions, no shortcuts. It’s a routine that says everything about how seriously he approaches his game. The next target is already locked in: make the top eight and play finals footy for the Capras. He carries the game’s biggest lesson with him — your body is capable of more than you think, if the mindset is right and you refuse to give up.
Off the field, Bailey’s a golfer and a beach person who considers Maccas the perfect end to match day and lists his golf clubs among the things he genuinely cannot live without. Thunderstruck gets him in the mood. Tom Brady and Kobe Bryant are the sporting idols. And if footy hadn’t worked out? He’d have made a fine police officer.

What’s your first memory playing rugby league? Waking up early Saturday morning playing juniors, then running ball boy and tee boy for local A Grade — and helping dad when he coached teams.
Who introduced you to the game? Grew up around footy with Dad and all my uncles playing.
Career Highlight: Making my debut for the Cup and having my family travel up to support me and celebrate together.

What advice would you give to young players starting out in footy? Play the game because you enjoy playing with your mates — the friendships you make from footy are lifelong.
