The Central Queensland Capras continued their BMD Premiership campaign with a tough contest at Rugby Park against the Norths Devils. Despite a determined effort and a standout first-half try from Tahnee-Lea Holt, the Capras were unable to overcome a polished Devils outfit, falling 36–4 in their season opener.

The Devils struck early, with Te Ngaroahiahi Rimoni breaking through the line in the 10th minute to open the scoring. A successful conversion from Tawny Burgess gave Norths a 6–0 lead. Just six minutes later, Paris Pickering crossed out wide, extending the lead to 12–0 after another sharp conversion.

The Capras worked hard through the middle to slow the Devils’ momentum and were rewarded just before halftime. A linebreak from Tahnee-Lea Holt in the 34th minute put the Capras on the board, closing the margin to 12–4 at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Norths quickly regained control. Portia Bourke found space in the 43rd minute to extend the lead to 18–4, followed by back-to-back tries from Ashleigh Kelvin (47’) and Rowena Koonwaiyou (51’), pushing the margin to 26–4.

Despite defensive pressure from the Capras and some strong defensive sets, the Devils’ attack proved relentless. Courtney Tyrell added another in the 56th minute, and Koonwaiyou sealed the result with her second try in the 65th minute.

While the scoreboard reflected a dominant Devils performance at 36–4, the Capras showed flashes of potential, particularly through their forward pack and with moments of defensive resilience. The squad will regroup and turn their focus to building combinations and consistency as they prepare for next weekend’s clash.
