The Central Queensland Capras opened their BMD Premiership season with a dominant 48-6 win over Wynnum Manly Seagulls at BMD Kougari Oval.

In their first match of the season, the Capras built the result on a sharp first-half performance, scoring six tries before the break to lead 32-0 at half-time. They continued to control the scoreboard after the restart, finishing with nine tries to one in a strong Round 1 result away from home.

Tahnee-lea Holt gave the Capras the start they needed, crossing in the 7th minute before Mariah Denman converted for a 6-0 lead. Holt was in again soon after, scoring her second try in the 12th minute, with Denman again adding the extras to push the margin to 12-0.

The early double put the Capras in control of the opening period, and they continued to convert that start into points. Tylah Phillips crossed in the 18th minute, before Denman shifted from goal-kicker to try-scorer, crossing in the 22nd minute and converting her own try to extend the lead to 24-0.

The Capras added further damage before half-time through Madeline Johnson, who crossed twice in the space of six minutes. Her first came in the 29th minute, before she scored again in the 34th, giving the Capras a 32-0 advantage at the break.

Wynnum Manly needed to stop the flow of points after half-time, but the Capras struck again early in the second period. Denman crossed for her second try in the 42nd minute and converted to make it 38-0, continuing her strong impact on the scoreboard.

Josie Wogand added another in the 54th minute, with Denman again successful from the tee to take the Capras to 44 unanswered points. By that stage, the Capras had seven different scoring plays and had kept the Seagulls scoreless for more than 60 minutes.

The Seagulls found their only points of the match through Aaliyah Konui in the 62nd minute. Konui converted her own try to reduce the margin to 44-6.

The final say belonged to the Capras, with Johnson crossing in the 69th minute to complete her hat-trick and seal the 48-6 result. Her third try capped a three-try performance on the wing and closed out a clear first-up result for the Capras.

Johnson finished with three tries, while Denman contributed 20 points from two tries and six conversions. Holt also finished with a double, while Phillips and Wogand added one try each.

The Capras finished the match with nine tries to one, turning a fast start into a commanding Round 1 win on the road.
