Central Queensland Capras were beaten 22-10 by Brisbane Tigers at Aurizon Stadium in Round 9 of the BMD Premiership, with the visitors scoring twice while reduced to 12 players to shut down a second-half Capras fightback.

Brisbane landed the first blow through Charli Nikola in the seventh minute, but a missed conversion kept the margin to four as Central Queensland worked their way into the contest.

The Tigers doubled their advantage in the 23rd minute when Lorren Ieli crossed to make it 8-0. Another unsuccessful conversion left the Capras within two scoring plays, and Central Queensland found their response seven minutes later.

Tylah Phillips crossed in the 30th minute to cut the deficit to 8-4. Mariah Denman could not add the conversion, but the Capras had stopped Brisbane’s early scoring run and remained just four points behind at half-time.

That margin quickly changed after the restart.

Jenny David crossed in the 41st minute and Enah Desic landed Brisbane’s first conversion of the afternoon, stretching the Tigers’ advantage to 14-4.

Central Queensland needed a response and captain Denman provided it.

She crossed in the 50th minute before converting her own try two minutes later, cutting the margin to 14-10 and putting the Capras back within four points.

The opportunity increased when Brisbane winger Saupo-Mina Toeleiu was sent to the sin bin in the 54th minute. The Tigers were down to 12 players with only four points separating the sides.

Instead of allowing Central Queensland to capitalise, Brisbane produced the decisive passage of the match.

Tanika Newton crossed in the 63rd minute to push the Tigers eight points clear despite their numerical disadvantage. Courtney Robinson then followed with another try three minutes later, quickly turning a 14-10 contest into a 22-10 Brisbane lead.

Those two tries put the result beyond the Capras. Central Queensland could not find another response in the closing stages, with Brisbane holding their 12-point advantage through to full-time.
