In a tough encounter at Davies Park, Brisbane, the Central Queensland Capras faced off against the Souths Logan Magpies,  ultimately falling short with a 32-12 defeat. The Magpies’ explosive first half, which saw Israel Leota score twice and build a commanding lead, proved too much for the Capras to overcome despite their second half efforts.

The match started with an early flourish from the Magpies. Israel Leota opened the scoring in the 7th minute, crashing over for the first try of the match. A penalty goal in the 10th minute from Coby Black made up for his missed conversion and pushed the lead to 6-0. Just minutes later, Leota found the line again in the 11th minute, extending the lead to 10-0 after a successful conversion from Black.

Despite some early mistakes, the Capras started to settle into the game, but the Magpies kept the pressure on, with Te McDonald scoring in the 31st minute and Israel Leota making it a first-half hat-trick in the 36th as the Magpies went to the break with a 22 – 0 half time lead.

The second half began with the Capras trying to mount a comeback. Khaiya Waiembi crossed for a try in the 44th minute. Blake Moore’s successful conversion gave the Capras some hope at 22-6. But the Magpies responded quickly, with Floyd Aubrey scoring in the 55th minute to make it 26-6 an effectively putting the game out of reach for the Capras.

The Capras kept fighting, and in the 63rd minute, Nixon Putt crossed the line to reduce the deficit to 26-10. However, the Magpies’ defense held firm, and a final try from Latrell Siegwalt in the 72nd minute, followed by Black’s conversion, sealed the win at 32-12.

With the Magpies securing the win, they’ll look to maintain their momentum as they push towards the top of the ladder. Meanwhile, the Capras will regroup, aiming to bounce back stronger in their next outing.
