The Central Queensland Capras faced off against the Northern Pride in a thrilling weekend of action across all four junior competitions at Barlow Park in Cairns. While the Capras delivered impressive wins, especially from the U16s and U17s, the U18s and U19s struggled against their opponents, ultimately falling short. Each team showed moments of brilliance, with the U17s securing a commanding 24-0 win, the U16s emerging victorious 22-6, but the U18s and U19s couldn’t match their rivals’ intensity, leaving them with tough losses. As always, the Capras pushed forward, learning and ready for the challenges ahead.

Cyril Connell Cup: Capras (22) vs. Northern Pride (6)

The Central Queensland Capras U16s secured a solid 22-6 win against the Northern Pride. Despite an early try from Ryan Millard for the Pride, the Capras took charge with tries from Kobe Oberhardt, Walt Lanson, Kaelan Callaghan, and Cormack Werner. Lachlan Anderson and Doujon Kanak’s kicking kept the scoreboard ticking. The Capras capitalised on their opportunities, with a strong second half to cement the victory. This win marks a significant step forward for the team as they continue to build cohesion and progress.

Harvey Norman U17s: Capras (24) vs. Northern Pride (0)

A dominant performance by the Capras U17s led to a 24-0 victory over the Northern Pride. The Capras’ defence was impenetrable, keeping the Pride scoreless throughout the game. Alexis Bukowski’s double and tries from Maycee Brown and Josie Wogand put the Capras firmly in control. Jorgie Mitchell added conversions to seal the deal. The Capras controlled both ends of the field, and this well-rounded performance gives them momentum heading into their next match.

Harvey Norman U19s: Capras (12) vs. Northern Pride (24)

The Harvey Norman U19s also faced the Northern Pride, with the Capras losing 24-12. Despite early promise, with Keira Smith, Manaia Faiumu Malone, and Teleah Cassar all crossing for tries, the Capras couldn’t close the gap after the Pride gained momentum. Syianna Banu and Lisa Waireg’s clinical finishing for the Pride ensured the win, despite a brave effort from the Capras. The Capras showed great resilience throughout, but they were unable to stop the Pride’s consistent offence, leaving them with valuable lessons for their next match.

Mal Meninga Cup: Capras (18) vs. Northern Pride (30)

The Central Queensland Capras U18 team faced a tough match against the Northern Pride, falling short with a final score of 30-18. Early tries from Anasta Tamwoy, Jake Oberhardt, and Harrison Hill showed the Capras’ fighting spirit, but the Pride proved too strong, with Kaiden Lahrs contributing two tries and a solid kicking performance from Kees Anderson. Despite a valiant effort, the Capras struggled to keep up as the Pride extended their lead in the second half. The Capras will take lessons from this match as they look forward to improving their consistency in the next outing.
