The CQ Capras have named a formidable 29-player squad for the 2025 BMD Premiership—blending emerging talent with experienced leaders to take on the season with speed, grit, and determination.
Head Coach Julyess Jarvis is backing Central Queensland’s best to step up and make their mark in what’s shaping up to be a milestone season for women’s rugby league in the region.
“It’s all about building on that pathway from the juniors to the open women’s team,” he said.
With the BMD Premiership now aligned with the NRLW calendar, this year’s comp is more than a season—it’s a stepping stone to the big stage. About a third of the Capras squad are making the leap from the under-19s, a clear sign that the club’s development pipeline is working.
“I want the girls to experience playing at this level, which is something some of them might not have experienced before. I want to give an opportunity to players in the Central Queensland region who put their hand up and want to put their best foot forward for the Capras.”
Veteran forward Gemma Brennan returns to captain the side, bringing with her the trademark intensity and resilience that has defined her Capras career. She’s joined by Sharni Upton, another experienced leader whose vision and game smarts will be pivotal.
“Gemma Brennan will be someone I’ll look to to lead the way with her tough, physical football,” he said.
“The experience of Sharni and what she brings to the team in terms of her football IQ will definitely be something I will lean on too.”
The team’s playing style for 2025? Relentless.
