FOR 30 minutes it looked as though the Norths Devils were going to run rings around the Central Queensland Capras, but with a large and vocal crowd behind them the Capras turned the tables coming tantalisingly close to victory.

Mikaela Richter’s career prospects as a graphic designer have reached new heights after one of the CQ TAFE student’s logo designs was selected to spearhead a domestic and family violence awareness campaign in Gladstone.

But it’s the inclusion of her logo to the Central Queensland Capras’ football jerseys which Mikaela is most excited about.

ORICA and the Central Queensland Capras may seem unlikely partners, but the two have joined forces with the Department of Communities with the common goal of stopping domestic violence.

Orica site manager Stewart Wotton said using a sport young men were associated with, such as rugby league, was a golden opportunity to get the message across.

“This makes sense to me,” Mr Wotton said.

THE Central Queensland Intrust Super Cup team has returned to its roots after the club changed its name back to the Capras.

Capras chief executive Brenton Williamson said he hoped the relaunch of the name would help players outside Rockhampton feel more connected to the club.

“One of our criticisms in the past was that we didn’t do enough outside of Rockhampton,” Williamson said.

SADLY the Capras’ fairytale has come to an abrupt halt.

But this is only a point in time.

A brilliant pre-season preparation, the most successful launch and a winning start at home to the Intrust Cup had wiped some bad memories and created enormous hope.

A BIG season is set to get off to a big start.

Rarely in modern times has a rugby league year been planned with such optimism among those who run the game and those who fill the stands, and their feelings of hope are only set to amplify at Sunday afternoon’s opening game for the Intrust Super Cup season.

The Central Queensland Capras unveiled their team for the round one match against Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, picking up 13 born and bred CQ players.

Chief executive of the Capras Brenton Williamson is encouraging the Central Queensland region to get behind the “truly local” side.

IT IS the final opportunity for players on the fringe of the Capras to put their hands up for the Queensland Cup opener against Sunshine Coast and young half-back Kayan Davis is going to give it his best shot.

The quietly spoken 22-year-old will be one of the smallest footballers on the park but coach John Harbin has been impressed with his attitude at training and his work ethic.

Now it is up to Davis to prove he is the man to guide the Capras around the park.

Last week the Capras satisfied the coach with their work in defence but the creative side of their game is reflected in the fact they failed to cross the line.
